Food Bank Service oppurtunity
I started this service opportunity after I cancelled my trip to Nebraska on Zoom. The picture above displays one of the days I volunteered at the food bank. This day I happened to be sorting fresh vegetables into bags and then filling up bins of them. Below I will outline how each step from the "How To" page was used to create this opportunity.
step 1: Serve God
- When I began looking for this opportunity, I came across an awesome food bank located at a local church in my community. I knew it was going to be the right fit for a service opportunity due to their love of God and others.
Step 2: COmmunication
- Once I knew I wanted to serve at this food bank, I reached out and got into contact with the volunteer coordinator. I was able to then sign up myself, my mom, and my brother to volunteer.
- We have gone a couple of times and will continue to when we have free time.
Step 3: Finances
- Fortunately, this food bank was local, so I had no true financial burdens related to this service project.
Step 4: Travel & Transportation
- Again, the location of the food bank was in my community. I only needed to plan for a small amount of gas and a short drive.
Step 5: Loose Ends
- My family and I had to sign some liability agreements for our time while we were volunteering. In addition, there was a dress code of closed toed shoes and masks (because of the coronavirus pandemic).
Step 6: Pull The plan together
- I have never served at a food bank, but it is a truly unique and humbling experience that everyone should be a part of. Since this opportunity was organized by me, but ran through the food bank's organization I did not have to do much logistical work in planning this service project.
